Fuel cells built to perform. Refurbished to last.

Breathe new life into used stacks with Nedstack’s refurbishment and recycling services. We extend the lifetime of PEM fuel cell systems and reduce environmental impact by recovering and re-using valuable components across their full lifecycle.

Built to last. Designed to return.

We believe circularity starts with design. That’s why we build stacks that can be disassembled, refurbished and recycled. Our goals are simple:

  • Extend stack lifetime
  • Increase refurbishment cycles
  • Maximize material recyclability
  • Support the development of closed-loop recovery

We currently use proven pyrometallurgical recovery methods but are also investing in future technologies like selective electrochemical dissolution. Together with partners like the HyTechCycling project, we push the industry toward cleaner and smarter end-of-life strategies.

Recycle process

From mid-life to end-of-life: two strategies, one goal

Nedstack follows two structured paths for handling returned stacks:

Stack Refurbishment (Mid-life)

For systems that can be returned to operation

  • Visual inspection
  • IV-curve testing
  • Non-destructive disassembly
  • Part sorting
  • Reusability screening
  • Rebuild with certified parts

Focus: maximum reuse, minimum material loss

Stack Recycling (End-of-life)

For systems no longer eligible for refurbishment

  • Component breakdown and sorting
  • Recovery of precious metals
  • Closed-loop and open-loop recycling methods

Focus: material recovery and waste minimization

What happens when you return a stack?

  • Collected at our PemCare Hub
  • Visual inspection
  • IV-curve performance check
  • Disassembly without damage
  • Manual part sorting
  • Detailed reusability check
  • Refurbishment or recycling path selection

Each step is designed to protect valuable components and ensure a traceable, responsible process.
