Fuel-cell supply, maritime integration support

On board an ocean-going cruise vessel, the fuel cell acts as a live testbed for integration, safety and operations in real sea conditions. The installation supplies hotel loads with water as the only by-product, validating interfaces with ventilation, hazardous-area design, monitoring and the ship’s energy management system.
The Nedstack PemGen unit delivers DC power into the vessel’s electrical architecture and load steps. Start-up/shut-down routines, purging, and gas detection are managed under class-approved procedures, generating high-quality operational data for future rulemaking. By running side-by-side with conventional generators, the demonstrator de-risks multi-megawatt fuel-cell plants planned for next-generation cruise and deep-sea ships cutting noise, eliminating local emissions, and enabling zero-emission port stays.
From proof to pathway: Viking Neptune turns hydrogen fuel cells into cruise-scale reality.
Operational logic & scale-up
The architecture is modular: the Nedstack PEM stack provides efficient, continuous power. Lessons learned on Neptune feed directly into larger plant designs, paving a practical route from pilot to fleet deployment of clean auxiliary and ultimately propulsion-class fuel cells.
